Meet OAP Lerin Nicodemus of Rhythm 93.7 FM

Lerin Nicodemus, one of the many presenters who entered the Rhythm Voice Search 2017
in Lagos State, is now a part of the Silverbird's family.

She joined the Victoria Island-based radio station beginning of May 2018 after months of a
rigorous auditioning process. Lerin Nicodemus, kicked off with the Rhythm’s family co-hosting the
Morning Drive show from 5am-10am weekdays.

Although she studied accounting, Lerin have always had a burning passion for media and
entertainment, so she secured a six months internship position at Radio Nigeria, Bayelsa in 2014

where she learned the basics of broadcasting under some of the best broadcasters in the South-
South region of Nigeria.

Her days on the radio from the south-south region were short-lived as she relocated to Lagos in
2015 for NYSC programme. Three years down the line Lerin is back on the airwave even bigger
and better!!

Hello Lerin, Tell us more about you?
Hi! My name is Lerin Nicodemus, fondly called Tiny Talker because of my obvious small frame. I
am a Radio and Television On Air Personality. Currently, a co-host of the Morning Drive on
Rhythm 93.7FM Lagos.

How did you become a co-host on the morning drive?
In 2017, a friend of mine sent me a screenshot of the Rhythm Voice Search flier inviting aspiring
presenters to send in their entries. At first, I was reluctant because I held the opinion that most of
these talent haunt competitions were not won by merit. Anyway, after much persuasion I entered
for the contest online and got an invitation to come for a live on air audition and the rest is history.
Oh wow! So what are the pros and cons of being on the Morning Drive?
Pros: I get to do one of the most important jobs in the world (being the host of the morning show
means you are the first voice listeners will wake up to and it’s your responsibility to give them a
jump start to their day, motivating, informing, energizing and making a positive impact). It can be
challenging but it keeps you on your toes and at your best. In addition, I work with a great team so
every minute at work is a rare gift.
Cons: Maybe the 4 ‘o’ clock alarm that wakes me up every morning and the cold morning baths.
(Laughs)

What inspired you to go into Radio?
I’ve always been interested in the media industry but I think Radio discovered me, it just happened.
Within 2013 and 2014, Radio Nigeria had just opened it’s new branch in Yenegoa, Bayelsa, State.
On a fateful day, I got a message from one of their freelance presenter (a colleague in school) on
Facebook asking me to come to the studio and apply for an internship position. In his words “I think
you have the voice and can be great at this”. Then, I was still in school but I decided to try it out for
the fun of it; as I have always nursed the dream of being a presenter. Simply put, I instantly fell in
love with Radio the moment I beheld the ambient of the live studio, it captured my fantasy.

Who/What is your greatest inspiration?
Life inspires me. The fact that I am alive and healthy is enough inspiration. Also my Mum, who is
the smartest, loving and hardest working person I know is an amazing inspiration. Then, on social
media I follow handle like @Goalcast and @Grayvee (who’s notifications I turned on by the way).
In a world that is filled with so much negativity, it always helps to surround yourself with positive
energies at all times.

What would you like to be remembered for?
I’d like to be remembered as someone who contributed in making this world a better place.

What other talents do you have?
I sing in the bathroom, Beyonce and Rihana got nothing on me. lol

What is your first thought when you wake up in the morning?
It’s actually a question, “What time is it”? I’m sure you understand why.

If you could only have one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Eba! Fufu!! Any swallow with Banga, vegetable or Yellow soup… I might probably die of
constipation and indigestion after a while but I don’t mind.

If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
The power of creation.. Oh, Wait! I already have that.. So I’d go with the power of healing because
life (good health) is the greatest gifts of all.

Words you live by?
You are the creator of your reality. As long as you believe, you can achieve. So find happiness in
the little things, give love and keep grinding. Never stop believing! Trust the journey.

What’s the most surprising thing about you?
People find it surprising that I am introverted and very quiet.. It’s weird, I know, but I get very shy
outdoors especially in crowded places. The only exceptions would be when I’m working or
surrounded by friends (in which case, I am a clown).
