A pastor in South Africa has stirred controversy after his church shared pictures on Facebook apparently showing him and his congregants drinking rat poison.
Pastor Light Monyeki of the Grace Living Hope Ministries wanted his congregants to drink the poison as a demonstration of the power of faith.
He reasoned that if street children can smoke cigarettes made from the “Rattex” poison’s powder, popularly known as “nyaope,” there will be no harm if people of faith drank it.
Pastor Monyeki mixed the deadly poison with water and drank it first so as to assure his congregants of his faith. The congregants then rushed forward to drink it too.
It is unclear if they were harmed by the concoction or not, and attempts by news outlets to obtain comments from the church were unsuccessful.
